Family Photography FAQ
How long will it take?
We allow up to 2 hours for the photo shoot. That gives us time to get the photos we want without having to rush, which makes everyone more relaxed. Especially when children are involved, I like to give them time to warm up and show me some of the things that they enjoy doing, which makes the best photos.
How do I choose my photos?
I’ll organise a follow-up meeting at which you can choose which photos you would like to have printed. At that meeting, I’ll show you some of the options available to you. Alternatively, you can choose your images from your online gallery.
What should we wear?
Wear what you feel normal in. There’s no point being all formal if that’s not the way you want to see yourself. For colour, neutral colours tend to be best, and it’s a good idea to avoid heavy patterns and logos. (A funny story: somehow as a kid I managed to wear a very bright Daffy Duck t-shirt in our family photo for several years in a row. Don’t do that!)
The other thing you can do is change part-way through the photo shoot. This means that you won’t look the same in the whole series of photos. Sometimes this is as simple as changing a shirt or jacket to give everything a different look. It’s a good idea to have a change of clothes handy for the kids, just in case something goes wrong. You know how it is.
What sort of editing do you do?
I edit to make you look your best and natural in your photos. The starting point is colour and contrast, as well as temporary marks on the skin. For the kids, I often remove food remnants from their faces and clothes. Additional beauty retouching is available on request.
Should I wear makeup?
If you want! Makeup is great for helping you feel confident. My suggestion is that you keep it light and avoid darkening around your eyes. A light foundation or tinted moisturiser keeps the skin visible, which is important. If you have concerns about your skin, have a chat to me about whether makeup or retouching is the best option.
Are the photos candid or posed?
Good question, and the answer is that we’re aiming for photos that look natural. There are different ways to achieve great looking photos, and we’ll work that out together. Normally we get there by having a bit of fun.
How long will it be until I get my photos?
It normally takes about a day to a week to make the photos ready for you to choose. After you choose your photos, it takes anywhere between a week and 3 weeks to receive your prints, albums, frames and canvasses.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs unless your print costs exceed the print credit that comes with your package. You are not required to print any additional photos. Most of my clients do choose to spend more and get some great wall art.
When do I need to pay?
You need to pay a $100 non-refundable booking fee to secure your booking. The remaining amount needs to be paid on the day of the shoot. If you purchase prints above the value of the included pre-paid print credit, payment must be made at the time of the order.
Do I get any prints?
Yes, if your package includes prints. Otherwise you can buy them at an excellent price. (click here for photographic print prices – click ‘buy image’ for prices) The standard package includes pre-paid print credits, which you can spend on prints. As an indication, the $100 print credit will buy you five prints that are 8″x12″ or smaller. (8″x12″ is close to A4 size). You don’t need to buy anything else, but most people spend more than this to get some fantastic wall art, because it makes the best value out of your portrait session.
Do I get the digital files?
You can purchase the digital files as an option for a very reasonable price. (click here for digital file prices – click ‘buy image’ for prices) You will be able to view non-purchased digital files that are watermarked in your online gallery.
How can I share the photos with other family members?
Just share the password for the online gallery with them. They can log in and see all the photos, as well as purchase anything they want.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payments may be made by cash, bank transfer, Visa or Mastercard.
Who will the photographer be?
Stephen Denness is the owner/operator of Depictx Photography and will do your photography. Stephen is a wedding and family portrait photographer.
